Be Sweet

When Chelsea showed me the art she was working on for her variation of a Valentine's Day Strap, I immediately smiled. A fun take on something we always view as just hearts and flowers was a welcome and refreshing change. Even more so was the card that Nick wrote for it: 

'If for someone's attention you wish to compete, you'll have better luck if your demeanor is sweet.'

The more I read it, the more I loved it. Such a powerful yet simple statement about how friendships are formed: They start with people who are nice to one another. If I'm honest, this is a reminder I could use too - Kara used to tell me I was too 'straight to the point' sometimes and it's probably true. Even though I did it because I was way too busy and just needed to cross things off my list, I know I could have accomplished even more by taking time with everyone I interacted with to make them feel heard. I think that's why I love this little hug for my wrist so much - it's a reminder that you can never be too kind. 

My hope for you is that it'll do the same. Don't rush to anger or judgment - take a deep breath and reply with kindness, no matter what. I promise it'll take you a lot further than you could ever imagine.
