Story

This is it - the official ZOX of 2021. 


When we set out to create pieces that could ring in the new year appropriately, this name just resonated with me. For this to really make sense, I have to tell you a little story. 

In high school, I always wondered where I fit in. Let's be real - I think we all did. The teenage years of our lives somehow always manage to be a mix of the most fun and most awkward moments we can look back on. We're learning who we are, what matters and whose opinion is really important to begin with.

The strange thing though is that the day after we graduate, there's this sort of realization: Nobody cares who you were in high school. It's almost as if you're starting all over again with a clean slate where all the worries you had about fitting in are gone. We get to have this reset and define who we are.

The interesting thing for our family is that I graduated high school 9 years before Brandon and 13 before Jordan - in fact they were in high school and middle school when we started ZOX. I'll never forget telling them that realization I had as they were stressing about school. People laughed when they said they were going to make wristbands with their big brother, they made fun of the junky cars they drove and failures they were destined to become. 

But just like before, the day they graduated, all of those things that had been stressing them out seemed to disappear. Brandon moved to Phoenix with me when he graduated and Jordan to Los Angeles with us a few years later.

So why does all this matter? Because just like graduating high school, each year is a clean slate to recenter and focus on what matters the most: You and your happiness.

You decide who you're going to be, nobody else. You determine what's important to you, regardless of what those around you think. Want to change something up and make your life better? Do it! It doesn't matter if people think it's crazy or that you don't have a clue - at the end of the day, just like my brothers, the only person you have to prove it to is yourself.

So let’s begin again. Let’s wave goodby to 2020 and do more of what makes up happy. You only look crazy til you succeed.
