I love coming up with designs for my kids - it’s honestly one of my favorite things to do because it lets me focus on the lessons I’d like to share with them the most. Everyone is Special is the perfect example of that. The design is a school full of fish, each one unique. As kids (and even now as adults), it’s easy to mistake our uniqueness for a flaw. When we’re young, they’re things we’re teased about - mine was that I was “too” tall. I still remember people making fun of the way I looked and it always hurt deeper than I ever let on.
So how do we change that? How do we change the perception from what makes you different is bad to what makes you different is what makes you special?
We start with kids. We teach them compassion for everyone, no matter what they look like.
We show them that each of us are special in our own way - that’s what makes the world such a wonderful place to begin with.
