Story
I'd like to give you a little insight with the background of this Strap. When Daniesha showed it to us, I loved it. Flamingos are one of my favorite animals as they're just so strange yet beautiful at the same time. Nick and I were in the middle of our weekly meeting to discuss names and phrases I want to use for future artwork and this one in particular made me pause. The first name that came to my head for this? Majestically Awkward.
For some reason this name reminded me of when we first started making Straps back in 2011 - the first names we came up with were very off the cuff, with inspiration that came from whatever the image on the Strap was. However, as I thought about it more, I realized that nobody (well, probably nobody other than my brothers and I anyway) would want to wear a Strap that said majestically awkward. That inspired me to look at what a group of flamingos was actually called: A flamboyance.
Here's why I love that so much. Google's definition of flamboyance (outside of flamingos) is: the tendency to attract attention because of one's exuberance, confidence, and stylishness.

That, to me, is 1 degree away from Majestically Awkward. Even more importantly, it's reminding us that no matter how awkward we feel, we can learn to be confident in ourselves and change the voice of our biggest critic (ourselves) for good. My entire childhood, I was teased for being tall and uncoordinated - I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect me. Over time, I found confidence in myself - through constant reminders, I learned to focus on my own voice rather than the ones of those who made fun of me.
It's easier said than done - that's very true. But my hope for you, with this wonderful Strap, is that it reminds you that it's okay to take a pointer from the flamingo. Yes, it is one the most awkward animals that exists, but therein lies its beauty. It doesn't care what you think, it lives its life without the concern of other opinions. I hope this will help encourage you to do the same.
Big Hugs!
